Giacomo Savini, MD – Curriculum vitae

 

Born in Bologna, Italy, on February 28, 1969.

 

1993: degree in Medicine at the University of Bologna, Italy

1997: completed residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Bologna, Italy

 

Between 1997 and 2008 he has been working in a private practice (Centro Salus, Bologna, Italy), where he has mainly performed cataract and refractive surgery. In 2008 he founded his own private practice (Studio Oculistico d’Azeglio, Bologna, Italy). Since 2009 he is also a researcher at the GB Bietti Foundation – IRCCS in Rome, Italy.

 

In 2013 he has been appointed Visiting Professor at Whenzhou Medical University, Zhejiang,  China.

In 2021 he passed the examination, issued by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, for the qualification as a University Professor.

In 2023 he has been appointed as Adjunct Professor by the University of Bologna for teaching Biometry and IOL power calculation.

 

Main fields of interest in clinical research:

Intraocular lens power calculation
Corneal refractive surgery
Optic nerve analysis by optical coherence tomography
Dry eye and ocular surface

 

227 papers published on peer-reviewed journals (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/?term=giacomo+savini&sort=date). Most of these studies are focused on IOL power calculation. Several chapters on IOL power calculation published on 20 books.

More than 350 papers presented at national and international meetings.

Coauthor of the Hoffer QST formula and the Naeser/Savini toric calculator (www.hofferqst.com).

Nine national meetings organized in Bologna between 2013 and 2022 on IOL Power Calculation. Since 2015, he has organized every year instructional courses on IOL power calculation at ESCRS and ASCRS on behalf of the IOL Power Club (IPC).

 

Member of the IPC since 2007 on invitation by Kenneth J Hoffer, MD. Since 2013 member of the Executive Committee as treasurer of the IPC.

Member of ASCRS, ESCRS, Italian Society of Ophthalmology (SOI) and Italian Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (AICCER).

Member of the International Intra-Ocular Implant Club (IIIC) since 2022.

Collaboration with the following companies for clinical research: Alcon, CSO, Heidelberg, Johnson & Johnson, Oculus, SIFI, Tomey, Topcon, Staar, Zeiss, Ziemer.
